Avalon mill site

Avalon mill site
Site where the Avalon mill stood. The building in the picture is the only part that remains of the mill. It was the mill's machine shop/engine room which was located at the back of the mill. The engine room housed the turbines used to power the mill's machinery. I probably took this photo from the flume. Water from the millrace or canal runs through an underground channel--perhaps a large pipe--and over the turbines located in a pit inside the building. After the water leaves the turbines it flows out the rear of the building, into the tailrace, and then into the riverbed a short distance behind the building.
