The Avalon Mills, From John M. Gallaway & Wife

This deed made this 10 day of February 1900 by John M. Gallaway & Wife Mary H of Rockingham County and State of North Carolina of the first part, to Avalon Mills of Rockingham County and State of North Carolina of the second part Witnessth: that said first party in consideration of two thousand Dollars to them paid by second party, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain, sell, and convey to said second party. and there heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land in Madison Township Rockingham County, State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of Avalon Mills J.M. Galloway Roanoke Southern R.R.d and others. Bounded as follows:

Beginning at Mayo River at the line of the Avalon Mills property thence up and with the river(125)one hundred and twenty five poles Thence at right angles from the river (128) one hundred and twenty eight poles thence in a line parallel with the river 125 one hundred and twenty five poles southward thence Eastward to the first station; containing by estimation one hundred acres on undivided one half interest in which is hereby conveyed being the same land conveyed to John M. Gallaway by Hugh R. Scott by deed of record at Wentworth N.C. Registers Offices Book 116 Page 576 same and except a river point of 200 two thousand feet heretofore conveyed to

Piedmont Land and Manufacturing Company by First party to have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said second party heirs and assigns to their only use and behoof forever and the said John M. Gallaway and wife Mary H covenant to and with said Avalon Mills heirs and assigns that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have a right to convey the same in fee simple; that the same are free from all encumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever, In Testimony Where of the said John M Galloway & Wife Mary H have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and the year above written.

Busick N.P. do hereby certify that John M Gallaway and Mary H his wife personally appeared before me this day, and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed of conveyance; and the said Mary H being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband, touching her voluntary execution of the same, doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she doth, still voluntarily assent thereto, witnessed my hand and notarial seal this 10 day of February 1900.
