This deed made and entered into this the 11th day of July 1899 by and between B. Frank Mebane and L C M Mebane his wife of said county and state parties of the first part, and The Avalon Mills a corporation duly (Chartered) organized

and existing under the laws of said state, Party of the second part, Witnesseth: That said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred and Fifty Dollars to them in hand paid by said party of the second part, The receipt of which is hereby fully acknowledged have given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents give, grant, bargain, sell, assign and convey unto said party of the second part and it's successors and assigns all of the right title, interest and estate of the said parties of the first part in and to that certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Rockingham aforesaid on the waters of the Mayo River, mentioned and described in a certain grant from the state of North Carolina to P.B Johnston having date of August 5th 1898, upon an entry made by said P.B. Johnston on the 11th, day of August 1897, and described in the said grant as follows

Beginning at a chestnut oak on the East bank of Mayo River, corner of Piedmont Land and Improvement Company and turns thence up said River North 57 3/4 degrees East 1.65 chains to a stone, thence North 34 degrees East (crossing a branch tributary to said River at 87 chains) 2,24 chains to a stake; thence North 28 degrees East 2,78 chains to a stake, thence North, 27 degrees East 8,42 chains to a stake; thence north 27 1/2 degrees East 6,00 chains to a stake; thence North 33 degrees East 1,90 chains to a stake; thence North 24 degrees East 3,66 chains to a stake thence; North 14 degrees East 6,70 chains to a stake; thence North 24 degrees East 5.80 chains to a stake thence; North 11 3/4 degrees East 4,32 chains to a stake thence North 22 1/2 degrees East 5,20 chains to a poplar, thence, crossing said River north 45 degrees West 3,40 chains to a Pine thence South 25 degrees West 8,79 chains to a stake; thence South 16 3/4 degrees West 9.25 chains to a stake; Thence South 5 degrees West 3,30 chains to a stake situated between the mill race and said River thence South 15 degrees West 1,61 chains to a stake; thence South 2 degrees West

3.70 chains to a stake; thence South 38 degrees West, crossing the mill race 2,24 chains to a stake 30 links South of said race; thence South 22 degrees West 12:80 chains to a stake; thence South 42 degrees West 4,69 chains to a stone on the North of Mayo River Thence South 32 degrees East crossing said River 7,35 chains to the beginning and containing 13-48/100 acres, more or less, conveyed to said B. Frank Mebane by deed of said P. B. Johnston and wife recorded in the office of the Register of Deeds of said county book 120 page 557. To have and to hold all of the right, titles interest and estate of the said parties of the first part in and to said tract or parcel of land, with all privileges and apprentices thereto belonging to it said party of the second part and its successors and assigns to it's only use and behoof forever, in Testimony Whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Personally appeared before me this day B. Frank Mebane and L.C.M. Mebane, his wife, who acknowledged the deed execution of the foregoing deed and said L. C. M. Mebane being by me thereafter, privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband, touching her voluntarily execution of it, doth states that she executed said freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto, Witness my hand and Notarial seal this 12th day of July 1899
