The Village of Avalon.

The Village of Avalon.
The Village of Avalon. I believe this photo was taken between 1909 and 1911. Off in the distance on the left stands the Avalon Moravian Church. The prominent house in the front was the residence of Robert C. Smith, a manager at The Avalon Mills. Next door, on the right behind some trees was the residence of the Suttenfield/Crotts families. These two houses had the largest lots in the village. Both houses were occupied by mill managers and their families. There is another image of the Smith house on this site with additional information. The large rectangular building in the right rear must have been the new company store which replaced the old one destroyed by fire. The 2nd floor of the store building was used as a school.
